Lil Nas X Goes Off In “LEAN ON MY BODY”

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

Lil Nas X is ready for the 100 v 1.

Lil Nas X continues to solidify his reputation as one of the most fearless and boundary-pushing artists in the game. Known for his ability to stir up controversy since his breakout hit “Old Town Road,” X has consistently found himself in the crosshairs of various critics—from religious groups and homophobic voices to rappers and organizations like BET. But instead of backing down, his music shows he’s ready to confront the hate head-on. His latest release, “LEAN ON MY BODY,” is a clear reflection of that confrontational spirit.

“LEAN ON MY BODY” carries the energy of a diss record, as Lil Nas X doesn’t shy away from taking shots at an unnamed artist and their fanbase. He even mentions an altercation where his nephew allegedly gave someone the beats for talking negatively about him. In typical Nas fashion, he also brags about his lavish lifestyle, flaunting his wealth and multiple large homes.

What’s particularly striking about “LEAN ON MY BODY” is Lil Nas X’s aggressive tone, as there are moments he sounds like a Walmart version of Kendrick Lamar. But the track isn’t all hard bars—an unexpected contrast is added by a gospel-like choir, blurring the lines between Lil Nas X’s rapping prowess and his trolling persona.

Lil Nas X’s trolling has become very advanced.
