TOP 5

Honorable Mention. PAIN AWAY

It’s only fitting that “PAIN AWAY” wraps up this emotionally charged album. On this track, NAV opens up about finding solace in a woman who helps him escape life’s struggles. He thrives when he leans into vulnerability, delivering passionate melodies and raw lyrics about pain and substance use—elements that make this song one of his standout moments. The track’s intoxicating vibe, paired with a haunting, drowned-out sample, completely pulls you in, making it the perfect closer for this deeply personal project.

5. REAL ME

For longtime NAV fans, “REAL ME” taps into a familiar theme—his battle with substance use and its impact on his relationships. Over Metro Boomin’s hauntingly melancholic production, NAV confesses that he feels most like himself when coming down from his drug highs. While he doesn’t put up a Mariah Carey-style vocal showcase, his delivery carries a raw, hypnotic quality that lingers long after the song ends.

4. KEEP GOING

In “KEEP GOING,” NAV delivers an unexpected message of resilience, showing that he’s unafraid to face life’s challenges on his own. He also expresses indifference toward his accolades, focusing instead on the grind. Despite his heavily altered vocals, the track stands out with its silky flow, catchy melody, and an inspiring message that truly resonates.

3. U.N.I.

One of the main reasons this track made it to my top 5 is the sample—whoever that woman is singing in the background absolutely nails it. The smooth production, paired with NAV’s effortless flow, creates an irresistible vibe as he raps about spoiling his main chick with lavish trips, wild nights, and gaming sessions. Turn this track on when you’re about to get freaky, and I guarantee magic will happen.

2. BURBS

NAV flexes his suburban success, wealth, and self-sufficiency in “BURBS,” embracing a life of luxury, solitude, and occasional conflict. Over a glitchy Wheezy beat, he delivers his signature mechanical flow, effortlessly blending bravado with introspection. This version of NAV—both trill and reflective—stands out as one of his most underrated personas.

1. YOU (Ft. Don Toliver)

NAV and Don Toliver showcase their undeniable chemistry on “YOU,” a track that highlights their robotic yet emotive vocal styles. The song revolves around spending time with women who may not be theirs, featuring laidback deliveries, highly infectious melodies, and effortlessly playa lyrics. Out of all the tracks on this project, this is the one that felt the most innovative.

RGM RATING

(74%)

NAV’s latest album thrives because he leans into the sound that made him successful—a melancholic, introspective vibe that lets him explore themes of drug use, complicated relationships, and his preference for solitude. While he occasionally touches on street narratives, the focus remains on his emotional struggles.

Vocally, NAV pushes himself more than ever, experimenting with choir elements in “SINKING” and incorporating R&B influences to deepen his connection with listeners. The album keeps guest appearances minimal, featuring only Playboi Carti, Don Toliver, and a glimpse of The Weeknd, reminiscent of the solo-heavy approach on his debut. This allows NAV’s raw lyrics and moody production to take center stage.

However, his vocal limitations remain a sticking point. While he makes a strong effort, his singing can sometimes feel unpolished, even unintentionally humorous. Additionally, his attempts at menacing street talk still feel unconvincing, making certain moments eye-roll-worthy. Despite these drawbacks, the album remains a compelling listen, staying true to the core elements that define NAV’s artistry.

Wondering why such a low rating on Unlimited? I personally really loved the Carti feature and thought it was one of the better songs if not the best off the album. Love some good discourse and differences of opinion so just wanna hear you thoughts!
