5. You
Roy is calling someone out on this track.
In “You,” he gets very honest about having feelings for someone and knowing that they are doing you wrong. The female that the artist is missing is out here lying on his name, disrespecting him, cheating and making him feel foolish. He trusted her with his past and opened up about other girls hurting him in the same way, but she went ahead and hurt him anyway. Now he’s hurt, left wanting to be with her but knowing that she doesn’t deserve him.
4. What I Used To Get Into
Roy Woods is a changing man.
The singer opens up about some of the dirty or disrespectful things he has done in past relationships. He talks about secrets, dishonesty and not having any regard for loyalty because he wanted to have fun. However, he claims he was younger and immature back when he was doing those things, and he is trying to show his girl that he is different now. he is really trying, and he could be good for her if she let him be.
3. Tell Me What I’m Living For
This track had me in my feelings.
I’m not gonna lie, this track hurt me a little bit. this is the last track of the album, closing it out on a raw but rather depressing note. Roy opens up about receiving love from his family, his friends and his fans, but missing out on someone to come home to when he isn’t touring. Not for the first time in this album, he wishes he had a person to share his life with and show him affection. Every time he thinks he’s close to finding that one, something happens and he just ends up hurt instead.
2. Whatchu Mean
This track switches up a little bit.
Don’t get me wrong, “Whatchu Mean” eats for sure. It’s just, as the sing progresses, the mindset changes. At the beginning of the song he is talking about the negative things that his girl says about herself. She has a lot of struggles and difficulties that she has to deal with, but he feels like these are her battles and he can’t be expected to fight them for her. By the end of the song though, that all changes. he is going on about the things he can do to fix it, to get her out of her head, to make her feel better. You can hear as his emotions change throughout the track.
1. Stay With Me
“Stay With Me” is so good, it had its own introduction.
This track is one of the slower ones on the album, but it is full of passion and unwavering emotion. It has a slow, steady beat that is powerful but simple, and the chorus is repetitive but not in a way that makes you bored. This track is about struggles in some form of a relationship but trying to get the person he is with to stick around and see it through anyway. He wants to be with her at the end of the day.

Roy Woods’ “Dark Nights” album offers us a blend of R&B and chill hip-hop. The track list is made up of mostly slower tempo, sensual songs that feel very personal and emotional.
Roy gets vulnerable as he opens up about a situationship with many ups and downs. He hasn’t had the best luck with love, but he keeps falling into it anyway. the track list is full of heavy breakup songs, many regarding him getting cheated on or lied to but some admitting his own struggles with disloyalty or dishonesty. He gets real about his feelings in a stripped back, unfiltered way that I feel like many people will respect or relate to.
“Dark Nights” is smooth and catchy, and I found myself humming along and swaying to many of the tracks. Even the lyrics were fairly easy to catch onto, and they got stuck in my brain long after I was listening. Overall, this is a good album that I would definitely make my way back to. It’s the perfect album to cry to during a breakup!
