Forever’s “Backroads” Is a Futuristic Anthem Repping Virginia with Swagger and Soul

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This is a hit.

When it comes to Forever, I’ll admit—I’m extremely biased. But for good reason. This artist is doing something major for Virginia, and as a proud DMV native, I’m fully behind it. More than just local pride, there’s genuinely good music coming out of this camp: futuristic production, hypnotic melodic rap flows, and bold lyrics that stick with you long after the song ends.

Forever’s latest project, Recovery, is a testament to that evolution. One of its standout tracks, “Backroads,” is a sonic thrill ride.

“Backroads” is driven by a punchy, trippy beat that sounds like it was beamed in from the year 3025—perfect for anyone looking to shake dreads or crash a few virtual systems. Forever’s flow is explosive yet precise, bouncing across the track with a feverish energy. The chorus is instantly addictive, while subtle softness in his tone gives the track emotional depth beneath the chaos.

Lyrically, Forever speaks on repping his hometown and striving to make it out, chasing a vision of paradise while staying grounded in his roots. It’s music that moves both body and spirit.

Simply put, “Backroads” had me hyped from the first note. If you’re not tuned in to what Forever is doing for Virginia hip-hop, now’s the time.
