Kendrick Lamar Sets 2020s No. 1 Record for a Rapper

Kendrick Lamar continues to stack historic wins, proving once again why he’s in a league of his own. While currently on tour with SZA, the Compton native has officially surpassed Roddy Ricch for the most weeks at No. 1 for a rapper on the Billboard Hot 100 in the 2020s.

According to Billboard, Kendrick’s latest chart-topper “luther,” a collaboration with SZA, has spent an impressive 24 weeks on the chart and 12 weeks at No. 1—helping him set a new record for the decade.

For those surprised that Roddy Ricch previously held the record, don’t forget the viral dominance of his hit “The Box,” which ruled the charts in early 2020.

More than anything, this win reaffirms that Kendrick’s success is rooted in artistry, not controversy. Despite the noise around his recent feud with Drake, it’s refreshing to see the spotlight return to what truly matters: the music.
