LiAngelo Ball’s latest single “Booted Up” tries to match the energy of “Tweaker,” but it might leave some fans questioning his next move.
One of the most unexpected and feel-good stories in hip-hop this year has been the rise of LiAngelo Ball. After his NBA dreams fizzled out, he pivoted to music and shocked everyone by dropping the wildly popular single “Tweaker.” Since then, he’s performed at Coachella, a Detroit Lions playoff game, and even the NBA All-Star Game. The next step? A full-length project that’s reportedly dropping soon.
One track that might appear on the album is his latest release, “Booted Up.”
To be honest, “Booted Up” feels like a recycled version of “Tweaker.” Both tracks ride booming, Louisiana-inspired beats that feel tailor-made for someone like NBA YoungBoy. You even get the signature “ahhahhahhs.” Lyrically, LiAngelo flexes his newfound fame, money, women, and industry connections. While the chorus is passable, his verses are a different story. The delivery is muddy, the flow lacks clarity, and it just doesn’t click.
If this is a preview of what his full-length album will sound like, Gelo might be facing another early exit—this time from the rap game.
