The Weeknd Becomes Top-Grossing Black Male Artist in MetLife History

The Weeknd is a megastar.

In my very humble opinion, there’s The Weeknd—and then there’s everyone else. While he may not currently hold the crown for the most-streamed artist in the world (that honor goes to Taylor Swift), what he brings to the table transcends charts and numbers. From his mystique and genre-bending catalog to his unforgettable Super Bowl halftime show and growing footprint in film, The Weeknd remains one of the most compelling and polarizing figures in modern music.

And just yesterday, he added another historic milestone to his resume.

After two packed nights at MetLife Stadium—home to the New York Jets and New York Giants—The Weeknd officially became the top-grossing Black artist in MetLife history, drawing in over 163,000 fans. Even more staggering, his show outsold this year’s Governors Ball by 40,000 tickets.

As part of his ongoing After Hours Til Dawn Tour, the show also featured an electric appearance by Playboi Carti, who paused to give The Weeknd his flowers, thanking him for the opportunity and expressing deep admiration: “I love you, bro.”

From the production to the performances to the scale of the crowd, the night was nothing short of monumental. And with the next stop at Gillette Stadium on the horizon, don’t be surprised if The Weeknd continues to break records, one city at a time.
