Bad Flamingo Ignites With “Hold Up the Lighter”

An all-consuming, otherworldly tale with a wonderfully wicked bite.

The wonderfully mysterious musical duo known as Bad Flamingo continues to blur genre lines and identities with their latest single, “Hold Up the Lighter.” Known for their anonymous, mask-wearing personas—The One on the Left (vocals, guitar, bass, banjo) and The One on the Right (vocals, banjo, autoharp, tambourine)—Bad Flamingo operate by one mantra, famously quoting Oscar Wilde: “Give a man a mask, and he will tell you the truth.” Their growing catalog includes captivating songs like “Miles,” “Frying Pan,” “The Devil Knows,” and “Parked in the Lot.”

With “Hold Up the Lighter,” they return with their most haunting soundscape yet. A hypnotic blend of moody, funk-soaked guitar licks and emotionally charged beats lays the groundwork for a slow-burning, tension-filled story. The track oozes cinematic energy—think desert noir with a dangerous edge.

The lyrics are equally evocative: “Everything dies except that we don’t, And it digs like the moon’s fingernail, I roll through the valley and idle in the shadow, To watch you lean over the rail.” It’s the kind of writing that reads like poetry but hits like prophecy. With a mix of sensual vocals and ominous undertones, the track paints a portrait of temptation, mystery, and the power that lurks in the dark.

Fueled by their signature enigmatic presence and an unrelenting sense of cool, Bad Flamingo have crafted a track that feels like it was born in the shadows. “Hold Up the Lighter” is less a song and more an atmosphere—smoky, dangerous, and impossible to ignore.
