Logic’s New Single “Severed Ties” Brings Energy

Is Logic going through a mid-life crisis?

“Severed Ties,” the latest single from Logic’s experimental Sidequest album, continues the rapper’s recent foray into genre-bending territory. While the idea of Logic stepping outside his comfort zone to explore new sounds is refreshing in theory, the execution across this project has left much to be desired, and this track is no exception.

Sonically, the production is one of the song’s stronger aspects. With a hard-hitting, bass-heavy beat laced with warped, psychedelic flourishes, it’s built for drug-fueled mayhem. The instrumental practically dares you to go off.

Unfortunately, Logic’s vocal performance fails to meet the same level of intensity. His delivery is slurred, repetitive, and comes off lazy rather than experimental, especially on the chorus. The lyrics seem to take aim at fake people and keyboard warriors, but the message gets buried under a wave of incoherent rhymes and half-baked bars. Instead of sounding raw or unfiltered, it feels like a rough draft accidentally uploaded to streaming platforms. It’s disappointing, especially considering the potential the beat offers.

Still, if there’s one redeeming quality to “Severed Ties,” it’s the vibe. There’s a chaotic, almost cathartic energy to the track that might hit in the right environment, like a live show or a late-night drive where lyrics don’t matter. But for fans hoping for sharp bars or a return to form, this single won’t change their mind about Sidequest.

This is the first song in the history of music that is supposed to be bad.
