Joey Bada$$ Takes Aim with “ABK”

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Joey Bada$$ cannot be tamed right now, and I love that!

Joey Bada$$ is officially on a warpath—and he’s not hiding it. After firing lyrical shots at Kendrick Lamar and stirring up reactions from Ray Vaughn, Daylyt, and others on the West Coast, Joey has emerged as the clear winner in what fans have dubbed a 20 v 1 lyrical showdown. Now, he’s setting his sights on the throne with the announcement of his new album, Lonely At The Top, set to drop on August 1st. And if “ABK” is any indication of what’s to come, it’s about to be an aggressive takeover.

In “ABK,” Joey Bada$$ sounds hungrier than ever. The track is powered by two different beats—one laced with a sinister, taunting bounce and the other steeped in gritty, old-school hip-hop vibes. His delivery is razor-sharp and unapologetically confrontational. He warns rivals not to test him, hints at shaking up the West Coast hierarchy, and demands the same respect given to hip-hop’s elite. His bars are clever and cutting, his flow constantly shifting gears, and his confidence is infectious.

“ABK” feels like both a statement and a warning. Lonely At The Top might kick some ass, y’all.
