Can JID win Album of the Year in this packed year?
Atlanta’s lyrical demon JID has officially announced his next major release: GOD DOES LIKE UGLY, arriving on August 8th. The highly anticipated album will feature 15 tracks, continuing his run of dense, poetic, and unpredictable records that challenge the very structure of modern rap.
Accompanying the announcement are two striking artworks. One version depicts a group of people mid-dance in what appears to be a surreal, séance-like ritual. The second artwork is a cropped version of that image with the album’s title, God Does Like Ugly, cut out of the original frame—an abstract approach that feels intentional and deeply metaphorical. This visual setup makes it clear—this album won’t shy away from the messiness of being human.

The announcement of GOD DOES LIKE UGLY follows the surprise drop of GDLU (Preluxe), a short but impactful warm-up project that featured standout guest appearances from Lil Yachty and Eminem. The EP quickly got fans buzzing, especially as it showcased a more experimental, spiritually aware side of JID—blending celestial themes, unorthodox flows, and razor-sharp lyricism. It also marked another major co-sign from Eminem, who praised JID’s artistry and precision.
JID’s last full-length album, The Forever Story (2022), was a fan favorite and critical success—widely considered one of the best rap albums of its year. Yet, many fans and industry heads alike feel JID is still one breakout album away from superstardom. GOD DOES LIKE UGLY might just be that leap. That said, go ahead and put your PTO in for August 8th.
