Summer probably has a restraining order out on Jim Jones.
Walahi, one of my favorite tracks of all time is “Summer Wit’ Miami” by Jim Jones. That record had everything: Trey Songz’s smooth hook, a beat that embodied rooftop parties and white tees, and verses from Jim that captured the swagger of the Dipset era. Now, nearly two decades later, Capo has returned with another anthem that nods to his complicated relationship with the season that made him a summer staple.
“Summer Where You Been At” clocks in at just 1 minute and 44 seconds, but Jim Jones makes every bar count. The track finds him personifying summer itself, reminiscing on the flings and escapades she’s had—name-dropping Jay-Z and DMX in the process. The tone is half-jealous lover, half-obsessive fan, as Jones raps about tailing her like a private investigator.
The production flips Will Smith’s classic “Summertime” into a grittier, New York-styled backdrop that trades picnic blankets for project balconies. It gives the song a nostalgic heart while letting Jim lace it with street realism and romantic desperation. His delivery is intense and focused, making him sound like summer’s most troublesome ex—the one who can’t move on, and doesn’t want to.
Whether it’s a brief fling or a full reunion, one thing’s clear: Jim Jones still has a lot to say to Summer.
