Tierra Whack’s “Tip Toe” Sets the Tone for Jordan Peele’s “HIM”

Rating: 4 out of 5.

The end of this track is phenomenal.

Jordan Peele doesn’t miss. Anytime he drops a new film, it instantly becomes a must-watch. Soon, Peele will return with his latest project, HIM, starring Marlon Wayans and rising actor Tyriq Withers. The story centers on the complex and intense relationship between a football coach and a player, promising another thought-provoking, layered narrative from the acclaimed director. To set the tone, the movie is also rolling out a HIM soundtrack — with one of its lead singles being “Tip Toe.”

“Tip Toe” thrives on its haunting instrumental. The track blends booming bass, a steady tempo, and an eerie, cinematic score that grows darker and creepier as it unfolds. It feels less like a traditional hip-hop beat and more like a sonic thriller — tailor-made for a Jordan Peele film.

On the mic, Tierra Whack brings her signature playful but razor-sharp delivery. She raps about the pressure she applies whenever she walks into a room, her unapologetic competitiveness, and her disregard for weak rappers. Lines like calling rappers “food” and stuffing them in cabinets land with her quirky yet cutting precision.

Still, it’s the chilling score at the end of “Tip Toe” that steals the spotlight. It teases the unsettling energy we can expect from HIM, giving listeners a taste of the dread, tension, and brilliance Peele always delivers.
