Young Thug Fires Back With Raw New Single “Closing Arguments”

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

Young Thug needs a crisis management team.

Young Thug is making headlines right now, but not for the best reasons. This past week, a string of leaked phone calls surfaced online, with Thugger taking aim at just about everyone—Kendrick Lamar, Gunna, GloRilla, Drake, you, me, etc. But instead of staying quiet, Thug is doubling down with a brand-new single called “Closing Arguments.”

The track wastes no time setting the tone. Over a soulful intro, Thugger immediately addresses the “rat” accusations, claiming he’s solid while pointing the finger at others. Once the beat drops, the vibe turns into a slow-burning, trap-scientist groove—dark, deliberate, and a little grimy. It’s the kind of beat that feels tailor-made for late-night plotting sessions, and Thug uses it as a backdrop for some of his most defiant bars in recent memory.

Lyrically, he comes out swinging. Gunna and Yak Gotti both get labeled rats, while Thugger casually slips in bars about house shootings—but draws the line at mailboxes because that’s a federal crime. Between the flexes, the threats, and the talk of revenge, the track doubles as a diary of everything on his mind right now: loyalty, betrayal, and survival.

By the end, Thug opens up more emotionally, letting loose with the kind of raw, melodic vocals that made him a star in the first place. Over a stripped-down, crying beat, he admits to having a “cold heart” shaped by his experiences. “Closing Arguments” might not be the cleanest or most polished release, but it feels necessary. It’s Thug reminding the world that no matter how messy things get outside the booth, his greatest weapon has always been the music.
