A leaked snippet from Drake’s anticipated Iceman album has fans dissecting bars that sound like sharp shots at NBA stars DeMar DeRozan and LeBron James. The track features the same beat from episode two of his ongoing Iceman series, which already had listeners excited. But it’s the lyrics that are sparking the most conversation.
In the brief clip, Drake raps, “I wanna do s**t to the King, when you were a part of the team, we planned Mexico trips in the spring. Must’ve been dealing with spur-of-the-moment, because why (Kawhi) did we think you could get us a ring?” Many believe “the King” is a direct reference to LeBron, while “ring” and “Spur-of-the-moment” hint at DeMar DeRozan’s trade to the Spurs, which brought Drizzy’s hometown team, the Toronto Raptors, Kawhi Leonard.
Rumors of tension between Drake and the two players aren’t new. Reports suggest he felt betrayed after both attended Kendrick Lamar’s surprise pop-up show and were seen enthusiastically supporting Kendrick’s music. Drake has long been friendly with DeRozan and LeBron, so fans see these bars as a personal response to what he perceives as disloyalty.
If this leak is any indication, Iceman may be loaded with subliminal shots and confrontational lyrics.
