Belgian artist Tsar B delivers a dark yet soothing soundscape on her mesmerizing new single, “Amor.”
Tsar B, the Belgian singer-songwriter and self-taught producer also known as Justine Bourgeus, has carved out a distinct space in modern music. A classically trained violinist, she blends electronic textures, dark R&B, and cinematic atmospheres to create songs that feel both contemporary and timeless. Her latest release, “Amor,” is a striking example of this unique approach.
Inspired by Italian composer Claudio Monteverdi’s Lamento della Ninfa (“The Nymph’s Lament”), Tsar B incorporated the famous soprano vocal line into the chorus of “Amor,” while writing her own lyrics to give it a modern twist. The result is a captivating fusion of classical influence and forward-thinking production.
Lyrically, “Amor” confronts the despair of today’s world, touching on themes of genocide, unrest, and global turmoil. These heavy topics are paired with glitchy electronic beats and atmospheric layers, creating a sonic experience that is both unsettling and strangely comforting.
Despite its dark undertones, Tsar B’s haunting yet calming vocals bring a sense of quiet reassurance—like a ghostly voice promising that peace is possible. “Amor” is a fascinating, immersive listen that showcases her ability to merge old and new, tragedy and hope, into a singularly moving piece.
