Bruno Mars Makes RIAA History with “Just the Way You Are” Becoming the Highest Certified Single in U.S.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

“Just The Way You Are” is in the conversation for best songs ever, right?

Bruno Mars just made history—again. His debut solo single, “Just the Way You Are,” is now officially the highest certified single in U.S. history, according to the RIAA. The track surpasses “Sunflower” by Post Malone and Swae Lee, which previously held the record at 21x Platinum. Released in 2010 as part of Doo-Wops & Hooligans, “Just the Way You Are” has stood the test of time, becoming a global anthem of love and self-acceptance.

Last year, “Sunflower” was crowned the most-streamed song ever, largely thanks to its placement in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The 2018 collaboration between Post Malone and Swae Lee currently sits at nearly 4 billion Spotify streams, an impressive feat that helped cement it as one of the defining songs of the last decade.

Meanwhile, Bruno Mars’ Doo-Wops & Hooligans remains one of pop’s most enduring debut albums. With ten tracks—five of which each boast over a billion Spotify streams—it’s a body of work that defined an era of soulful pop and R&B crossover hits. “Just the Way You Are,” in particular, continues to connect across generations for its heartfelt message and universal charm.

It’s refreshing to see songs with real emotion continue to resonate worldwide. Both “Just the Way You Are” and “Sunflower” remind us that authentic, feel-good music never fades—it only grows stronger with time.
