Ty Dolla $ign’s “TYCOON” Fails to Chart on Billboard 200 Despite Star-Studded Lineup

Even with a lineup full of rap royalty and chart-topping collaborators, Ty Dolla $ign’s latest project, “TYCOON,” surprisingly misses the Billboard 200.

Ty Dolla $ign’s latest project, TYCOON, failed to make the Billboard 200 this week, selling less than 8,000 units in its first week — marking the first album of his career not to enter the charts. For an artist who’s long been known as one of R&B’s most consistent hitmakers and feature kings, the numbers are surprising.

What makes the results even more shocking is the star-studded lineup. TYCOON boasts appearances from A$AP Rocky, Quavo, Kodak Black, Lil Baby, Young Thug, Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz, and Leon Thomas, among others. Yet, despite this impressive guest list, the project didn’t seem to resonate. With only three solo tracks, some listeners have speculated that fans might be craving a more personal, stripped-down Ty Dolla $ign — the kind of sound that made Free TC and Beach House 3 fan favorites.

To put things in perspective, Ty’s earlier projects saw stronger openings. Free TC moved 31,000 units in its debut week, while Featuring Ty Dolla $ign sold 44,000. Even more recently, his collaborative success alongside Kanye West on Vultures 1 marked his biggest chart moment yet. Compared to those milestones, TYCOON’s first-week sales suggest a possible misalignment between his fanbase’s expectations and the album’s heavy collaborative approach.

Whether TYCOON marks a reset or a learning curve, it doesn’t change the fact that he’s a very talented artist.
