On This Day in Music Culture (11/13): Lil Uzi Vert, ODB & 2 Chainz

These are the defining hip-hop events that made history today.

1. Future & Lil Uzi Vert Dropped “Pluto x Baby Pluto” (November 13, 2020)

Remember the good old days when artists were teaming up for duo albums? One of the biggest collabs from that era was Pluto x Baby Pluto by Lil Uzi Vert and Future. While it didn’t deliver a ton of culture-shifting hits, the project overflowed with explosive energy, daring melodies, and wild, drug-fueled lyrics. Favorite tracks? “Drankin n Smokin” and “Patek.”

2. ODB Passed Away (November 12, 2004)

Ol’ Dirty Bastard was truly a one-of-a-kind rapper. Gaining notoriety as a member of the legendary Wu-Tang Clan, ODB was known for his unchained, unapologetic rap style and carefree approach to music. What made him so special was his ability to bring raw, gritty energy to even the smoothest tracks—like his unforgettable feature on Mariah Carey’s “Fantasy.”

My favorite ODB cuts? “Got Your Money” and “Shimmy Shimmy Ya”—two timeless classics that perfectly capture his wild, magnetic spirit. Sadly, ODB passed away in 2004 from an accidental drug overdose, but his influence and fearless creativity continue to echo through hip-hop to this day.

3. 2 Chainz Dropped “So Help Me God” (November 13, 2020)

2 Chainz is an artist who consistently delivers underrated albums, and So Help Me God is a prime example. Packed with guest appearances from heavy hitters like Rick Ross, NBA YoungBoy, Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Brent Faiyaz, and Lil Uzi Vert, the project boasts standout tracks such as “Feel A Way” and “Grey Area.” Yet what truly makes the album shine is its flow—how each track seamlessly transitions into the next—making it a thoroughly enjoyable and cohesive listen from start to finish.
