Kenny Mason – Pup Pack: 1st Shift (Album Review)

Kenny Mason teases only some of his skills in “Pup Pack: 1st Shift.”

3. Burn It Up

Kenny whenever he dives into his rock bag >.

Kenny Mason goes full rockstar on “Burn It Up,” singing with a carefree, let’s-cause-chaos energy as he talks about turning up, throwing hands, and repping Atlanta proudly. The only thing I was waiting for was him telling his parents to shut up and bragging about not eating his vegetables like those emo kids from back in the day.

The production leans into edgy guitar riffs and a driving tempo, and while he mostly sings over it, he drops in a rap verse that ties everything together, blending both hip-hop and rock seamlessly.

2. Loyalty

I love how rappers double, triple, and quadruple down on the importance of loyalty.

Kenny Mason comes out swinging on “Loyalty,” the project’s intro, reflecting on friends who switched up, the need for real loyalty, and even casually mentioning popping pills (Yikes).

Despite the track’s slightly dated feel, Kenny still glides over the trippy, mechanical trap production, delivering a hook that’s low-key infectious.

1. A1

Like the sauce, bih.

“A1” rides on a trap beat that’s mellow enough to spark reflection but still heavy with bass. Over it, Kenny Mason sinks his teeth in, talking about bringing women out who are ready to get down and dirty while sidestepping haters.

What really works here is how effortlessly he blends steady, focused bars with a hook that actually makes you feel something.

SONG-BY-SONG RATING

1. Loyalty (4/5)

2. A1 (4.5/5)

3. Burn It Up (3.5/5)

RGM RATING

(77%)

Pup Pack: 1st Shift is a quick but solid drop from Kenny Mason. Across its three tracks, he opens up about loyalty, Atlanta pride, and messy entanglements, all while flexing his versatility. Particularly, he glides over the spacey bounce of “Loyalty,” locks in on the hard-hitting “A1,” and taps into full rock energy on “Burn It Up.” It’s a compact project, but one that clearly showcases the range and raw talent Kenny brings every time.
