Lil Baby Reflects and Re-Ups With “Middle of the Summer” Ahead of ‘LEAK$’

Rating: 3 out of 5.

A mellow, introspective trap loosie that keeps WHAM Wednesdays alive.

We opened the rap year with Lil Baby, and now it looks like we’re closing it with him too. The Atlanta superstar has officially announced that his LEAK$ project is set to arrive in just a couple of weeks. Until then, he’s been keeping fans fed through his WHAM Wednesdays series.

After dropping “Otha Boy,” “Try To Love,” and “Real Shit,” he returns again with a fresh single titled “Middle of the Summer.”

“Middle of the Summer” finds Lil Baby taking a step back to reflect on his rise from hardship to stardom. He talks about pushing through poverty, staying loyal to his circle, leveling up when outsiders doubted him, and staying grounded despite pressure, distractions, and people waiting for him to slip. It’s one of those songs that shows he hasn’t forgotten where he came from, even if his lifestyle has changed.

The production sits firmly in Baby’s comfort zone: a triumphant, thumping trap beat with an easygoing tempo—nothing too flashy, but polished enough to set the scene. Vocally, Baby delivers with a slightly laid-back, almost detached flow that mirrors the reflective nature of the lyrics. It’s not his most energetic performance, but it aligns well with the track’s mood.

Overall, “Middle of the Summer” won’t shift the landscape of trap music, but it’s a solid, fitting addition to his WHAM Wednesdays run.
