Yesterday marked a major moment for hip-hop, with several highly anticipated releases hitting streaming platforms and posting impressive opening-day numbers. From chart-topping veterans to fan-favorite duos, listeners clearly showed up.
Leading the pack, 21 Savage’s WHAT HAPPENED TO THE STREETS pulled in 13.1 million streams on Spotify in its first day. While that number falls short of his previous album’s massive 42.1 million opening-day streams in 2024, it still signals strong engagement and continued interest in his solo work following a big year for the Atlanta rapper.
Veteran legends Nas and DJ Premier also made a solid showing with their collaborative project Light Years, which earned 2.32 million streams on opening day. The project’s most-streamed track was “GiT Ready,” proving that fans are eager to hear what one of hip-hop’s most iconic duos can do together in 2025.
Meanwhile, Ken Carson and Destroy Lonely’s the acronym debuted with 1.12 million streams, marking Destroy Lonely’s biggest opening-day debut ever on Spotify. The release represents a major milestone for Lone and highlights the continued momentum behind the Opium movement and its dedicated fanbase.
All in all, yesterday’s numbers made one thing clear: hip-hop fans were locked in, and these releases wasted no time making their presence felt.
