Larry June Keeps It Effortlessly Cool on His New Single “The Smooth Kind”

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

The Bay Area rapper closes out a big year with slick talk and West Coast ease.

I don’t smoke weed, but Larry June’s music gives me exactly the kind of laid-back vibes I need. Even though it’s felt like he’s been relatively quiet lately, it’s worth remembering that he actually had a massive 2025. Back in February, he teamed up with 2 Chainz and The Alchemist for Life Is Beautiful, a project that quickly became an album-of-the-year contender. He followed that up in July with Until Night Comes, a fourteen-track effort alongside Cardo Got Wings.

Now, Larry looks to close out his strong year with a new single titled “The Smooth Kind.” The track leans into punchy yet chill, old-school, West Coast-inspired production that feels effortless and familiar in the best way. It’s the kind of beat that doesn’t rush anything and lets Larry coast comfortably.

As expected, Larry slides through the track with a choppy, spicy flow, sounding relaxed but confident. Lyrically, he does what he does best: talks slick, outshines the competition, brags about the women he’s pulling, and flexes his love for money without overcomplicating things.

Overall, “The Smooth Kind” feels like light work for Larry June. It’s smooth, confident, and cool as hell.
