Fivio Foreign can rap his ass off when his back is against the wall.

I stand firmly on this: one of the best rap verses of the past ten years is Fivio Foreign’s verse on “Off The Grid.” The passion, the urgency, the way his voice sounded like it was fighting for freedom, it felt like a rapper with his back against the wall swinging for survival. That verse felt like it reintroduced Fivio as someone you had to pay attention to.

Fast forward to now, and somehow, his back is against the wall again — just for very different reasons. Fresh out of jail, Fivio has openly pushed back against 21 Savage’s “f**k the streets” narrative and appears to have smoke with some of the biggest streamers in the world. All that tension spills directly into his new track, “Rap Trap.”

Over emotional, Meek Mill-coded production, Fivio empties the clip. He takes direct shots at streamers who played with his name, doubles down on his comfort moving through the streets, and fires subtle (and not-so-subtle) jabs at Atlanta — a clear nod toward 21. The aggression is raw, but it works perfectly against the beat’s emotional pull.

Don’t sleep on Fivio. All he needs is one clean winning streak, and he’s right back out of here.
