KALAN Taps Into Early ’80s Vibes on “Nobody Like You”

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Toronto’s multi-talented artist blends vintage hip-hop energy with modern charm.

KALAN is a rapper, writer, and hip-hop dancer from Toronto, Canada. What I appreciate about him is his glow. It’s almost like he has the perfect combination of grit, charm, and flair for a commercial rapper. Aside from that, you can tell he has an appreciation for music that’s much older than him because he has worked with instrumentals that prove it.

A perfect example happens to be his latest single, “Nobody Like You.” The track features a vintage hip-hop beat, we’re talking early ’80s, that I can definitely see b-boys like himself dancing to. Over it, KALAN delivers a punchy, focused rap performance that speaks on the admiration he has for someone he’s feeling, doing everything he can to mend some of the problems they’ve encountered lately.

Overall, I think the track flows well, feels like a wonderful blast from the past, and is incredibly easy to cling to. I’m a fan.
