BigXthaPlug Says He Has “Something to Prove” in Hip-Hop After Country Success

BigXthaPlug isn’t just easing back into hip-hop, he’s kicking the damn door in.

The Texas rapper recently announced that he has a new album on the way this year, making it clear that this project is personal. After successfully venturing into the country space in 2025 — earning major recognition, award show appearances, and expanding his audience — BigX says it’s time to refocus on the genre that built him.

And he has something to prove.

While reflecting on his country run, BigXthaPlug acknowledged the opportunities it brought: new stages, new rooms, and recognition from institutions that hadn’t previously tapped in. But he also pointed out something glaring — despite being a hip-hop artist at his core, he hasn’t received invitations to certain hip-hop-centered award shows, including the BET Awards.

That disconnect seems to be fueling his next move.

For BigX, this isn’t about abandoning growth or experimenting across genres. It’s about respect. He’s made it clear that while he can dominate outside of rap, his foundation — and identity — is rooted in hip-hop. And this upcoming album sounds like it will be his statement piece.

If his country crossover proved versatility, this next chapter may be about reaffirming dominance.

Artists with chips on their shoulders tend to deliver their most focused work. And if BigXthaPlug is “going all in,” hip-hop might be getting one of its most motivated projects of the year.
