6LACK Announces “LOVE IS THE NEW GANGSTA” Release Date and Artwork

It looks like 6LACK will make his triumphant return very soon.

6LACK is officially returning with LOVE IS THE NEW GANGSTA, set to drop on May 22. Known for blending moody R&B with raw, introspective storytelling, he built his reputation through projects like FREE 6LACK and East Atlanta Love Letter. His last major release was Since I Have A Lover in 2023, a 19-track project which features tracks like “Temporary,” Inwood Hill Park,” and “Since I Have A Lover.” It also featured guest appearances by Wale and Don Toliver.

The album title hints at a shift in perspective. LOVE IS THE NEW GANGSTA suggests a focus on emotional vulnerability as a form of strength, possibly reframing themes he’s explored before. He also revealed the album artwork, which shows him alongside his daughter, both smiling and showing off their grills. That visual alone points toward a more personal direction, potentially offering updates and reflections from his real life.

Sonically, 6LACK typically leans into atmospheric production with minimal yet effective instrumentation. There’s room for growth here, whether through new collaborators or expanded soundscapes. Given that he’s already worked with a wide range of artists, it wouldn’t be surprising to see features play a role, though he’s proven he can carry projects on his own.

This is a major release that promises to deliver. I’ll be there when it drops.
