“DON’T JUDGE” blends a nostalgic sound with powerfully reflective lyrics.
Portland, Oregon native Daniyel is a 19-year-old rapper and singer who’s currently based in Los Angeles. Growing up, he moved around a lot and considered music to be his escape, which became a way of exploring his unstable upbringing and personal losses of loved ones artistically. His sound is meant to be “nostalgic and real, but also imaginative and inspiring in feeling.” Daniyel’s debut EP Madison High paid tribute to his high school, while his 2020 single “Lost Ones” honored his deceased aunt and uncle. He considers his biggest music inspirations to be Childish Gambino, Kanye West, Tyler The Creator, Kid Cudi, and Twix. Daniyel’s latest release, “DON’T JUDGE,” is a single off his upcoming project that will release sometime this spring.
According to Daniyel, his latest track is inspired by social media and its effects. He says, “The song is about not judging someone before knowing who they are.” The single is also paired with an equally thoughtful music video that has some entertaining Kung Fu Hustle vibes and is absolutely worth viewing. Overall, the production for the track is very well done and the light dreamy instrumentals have a nostalgic sense and pair well with Daniyel’s smooth vocals. “DON’T JUDGE” has solid lyrics that go beyond its inspirations and reflect on Daniyel’s own experiences with life and death. Another solid release from the young artist.
