“Listen” is filled with heartbreak, honesty, and passion.

Award-winning Canadian soul singer Melanie Durrant has a unique and edgy music style that’s undoubtedly contributed to her receiving multiple accolades throughout her career. In 2004, she was a nominee in several categories at both the Canadian Urban Music Awards and the MuchMusic Video Awards. In 2013, her reggae-influenced rock single “Made For Love” was nominated for ‘Reggae Single of the Year’ at the Juno Awards. Then in 2015, Durrant’s “Four Seasons” was nominated as a JUNO Award nominee for ‘R&B/Soul Recording of the Year.’ Her last album, Anticipation, peaked at #5 on the Canadian iTunes R&B chart and reached the Top 20 spot on the national Earshot! chart. Her latest release is the deep single “Listen.”

According to Durrant, “Listen” was written to bring “awareness to toxic situations in relationships.” The subject matter only makes the emotional rawness of the song feel that much more bittersweet. There’s a well-balanced blend of 90s R&B and hip hop vibes in its sound that gives the song a lovely sense of timeless essence that complements the important and inspiring lyrics.

“Listen” is a gorgeous achievement.
