SZA Steps Outside Of Her Comfort Zone In “Joni”

RGM RATING (??????)

I’m drunk off SZA right now.

SZA dropped three brand new songs on SoundCloud today. This is surprising because she never releases s**t these days. While the first two songs I posted, “I Hate You” and “Nightbird,” is on-brand for her, “Joni” doesn’t sound like some s**t she would make.

In “Joni,” SZA sings feverishly and passionately over an instrumental that features plucky guitar chords and vibes that a ballerina would probably love. As for lyrically, I have no clue what the hell she is talking about in the song. Whatever the case may be, “Joni” does prove that the California singer is down to step outside of whatever box we tried to put her in.

I love how random SZA is.
