Has Kendrick Lamar season started? I think so. It has been close to a week since the TDE rapper announced that he was leaving his label; now he has a new collaboration single with Baby Keem called “Family Ties” (Wow, it’s funny how much changes in a week).
Since this is a Kendrick Lamar feature, as expected, s**t isn’t simple. In “Family Ties,” the beat changes a few times and we get nothing but killer bars by both Lamar and Keem. While the latter does his work in the first half of the song, hitting us with boisterous bars about his impressive come-up and quick temper over horn-driven production, the former hits us with both complex and simple flows, both aggressive and debonair deliveries, and lyrics that let us know that he wants his respect. When you combine everything that I just mentioned, you get an enjoyable discombobulated track.
