Soulful pop vibes with upbeat lyrics.

Canadian singer and songwriter, Leo Lotus, presents himself as a soulful urban artist. His biggest musical inspirations come from his Nigerian and Guyanese parents who pushed his musical curiosity from a young age. Besides that, he also draws inspiration from big rap icons like Childish Gambino, ASAP Rocky, and Drake. Lotus’s style mixes different genres such as rap, pop, soul, and jazz. The artist has been releasing singles since 2019. All of his work is available on Spotify, Youtube, and Apple Music. Leo Lotus’s newest release is the pop piece, “Hazel Eyes.”

“Hazel Eyes” sounds more like pop than rap; however, it’s easy to notice the strong influences from the latter. It’s a fast-paced song with a fun, upbeat flow, which makes it interesting despite its message. In the song, Leo talks about loss in a roundabout way. However, the cute pop and adorable album cover might confuse us. Lyrics like “Angel eyes, why you cry? You moving like you’re dead inside/ I’m not your type, I don’t know why” has the artist sounding slightly unhappy. To me, this song sounds like you’re trying to love someone who doesn’t love you back, or maybe loving someone who doesn’t want to be loved. Either way, as Lotus explains, it is a bittersweet feeling to experience. So, stream Leo Lotus’ “Hazel Eyes” to learn how impactful they can be in your life.
