Boys In Jersey

Kjersti Long

A song that the 2000s would call “emo.”

Clinton, New Jersey native, Kjersti Long, is a rock prodigy. She’s 15 years old, but her age won’t stop her from becoming the ultimate riot girl. Kjersti takes inspiration from women in rock, such as Joan Jett and Pat Benatar. Overall, she is a young and capable artist who is not afraid to admit that she’s looking for a seat at the table. Kjersti’s work is available on Spotify, YouTube, and her own website. What she brings forward now is her new hit, “Boys In Jersey,” the latest in her currently-smaller pool of songs. The song also has an accompanying music video.

Kjersti is tired of trust-fund babies and guys that cat-call while bumping Drake. She shares all of her frustrations with the literal “Boys In Jersey” that she’s had to face while coming into her own. There are no lies about her message either; give us real boys and not boys that treat her wrong.

This song is a true hyper-excitable banger. It provides total pop-punk F-YOU energy, adding to the genre’s revival. And yes, you heard it right, pop-punk is cool again! This song reminds us of when we were angsty teens looking for something to scream at the top of our lungs for. If this song had come out back then, it would be up there with MCR and even P!AtD. The emotional value behind it is too good to ignore, but the lyrical content is also relatable. Lines like “Is it just too much to give some affection and then get it back?” and “I want a love on fire like a match in the tank” show exactly that. So, stream Kjersti Long’s “Boys In Jersey” to learn which boys to avoid.
