R&B and heartbreak is a match made in heaven.

Baton Rouge, Louisiana-based musical creative, djinn., is a music wizard with the name to prove the point. In combining his “unique blend of R&B, jazz, neo-soul, and pop,” this artist remains at the top of the industry. He “creates an effervescent and ethereal soundscape that beautifully explores themes of fantasy, magic, romance, wellness, and a colorful spectrum of emotions.” In dismissing the superficial side of contemporary tunes, djinn instead focuses on authenticity; he provides his listeners with music that resonates with “the mind, body, and soul.” The artist’s previous releases are his debut single, “Dungeons,” followed by “Cocoa Butter Zen.” These songs, and more, are available on Spotify, Apple Music, and his own website. djinn.’s latest drop is the R&B single, “Vibe Check.”

With a bright yet easygoing blend of smooth instrumentals, “Vibe Check” is a slow hit that reminds us of what we need in life. We need to move on from the painful reminders of our ex and become our own person again. Lyrics like “Not a day goes by I don’t think of you / It works my nerves that I’m actually feeling blue” and “All this time what I thought I knew was true / I wish I could undo all this time I gave to you” reminisce on the lingering pain of heartbreak and the desire to move on from the painful feelings left from an ex. At the same time, it forces us forward. It’s soul-stirring. It keeps us up at night, but not for the reason we think. It simply doesn’t let us think about our ex longer. So, press play on djinn.’s new single to give yourself a “Vibe Check.”
