3. blinded by emotion

This opener sets a precedent for an emotional journey.

What do you do when your emotions are so strong you can’t see what’s in front of you? For Trocchino, she recognizes this fatal flaw of hers and owns it. Using bubbly pop synths, she makes this track her safe space for being honest and introspective. Though she sees wearing her heart on her sleeve as a weakness, I see it as a strength, making this track a relatable anthem for those who feel it all.

2. nobody

When you give and don’t get back, it’s ok to walk away.

“Nobody” is a sweet, ethereal piece that pulls on heartstrings. Trocchino touches on what it’s like to love someone hard and not be met with that same reciprocity. Instead, she’s on the receiving end of her partner’s cruelty. Like the challenging topic being discussed, the song itself is a haunting yet beautiful reflection of it, with Trocchino’s mix of gratifying harmonies. Luckily, by the end, she realizes peace is just as good as love, ultimately taking her power back from her former love.

1. I think love’s going to kill me

Have you ever been in love if it didn’t accidentally kill you?

Trocchino takes on a more 90s R&B sound with this track, but she’s still introspective as always. Its chill, dreamy beat contrasts its upside-down fairytale story. Trocchino is unsure whether or not her prince charming is real, or it’s all a facade. With emotional belts, she tries her best to comb through her potential love’s feelings and her own. By the song’s title, it’s plain to see this love has her distressed and close to death.

RGM RATING

(B+)

Love is the overarching theme for Journey to a Higher Vibe. Trocchino is a young adult navigating the world and the complexities of feelings. She does this arduous challenge delicately, trying to find the meaning in love for others and herself. She uses genre-bending to her advantage, mixing together essential elements from genres known for turning out love song classics. You can hear it in her voice and writing that she’s far in tune with her sense of self. She freely expresses her thoughts, full of rage, pain, and happiness, in a manner that anyone can resonate with.

Each track sounds sonically different but still holds the same ethos of love and self-discovery. As your ears take a trip through Trocchino’s world with each track play, you go on the same journey as her. Not only can you see yourself in the same situations as her, but you can also feel the same emotions she does. Journey to a Higher Vibe is meant to take you to places you’ve never been before with yourself. It opens you up to the emotionalism and honesty you’ve been avoiding. When you’re looking to enter a new realm that’s artful and full of thinking, Journey to a Higher Vibe should be what you gravitate to.
