After you drop a borderline classic album, you’ll be surprised how nice people start acting towards you. That said, I feel like ever since Lil Yachty dropped his Let’s Get Started. album, which plenty of people like, things have been looking up for the Atlanta native. Not only has he dropped a few singles that are doing serious numbers, but he has also been going toe to toe with respectable artists such as JID and Miguel. Today, Yachty returned to the music scene with a brand new single called “The Secret Recipe.” In the song, he challenges the one and only J. Cole.
“The Secret Recipe” gives off the vibes of a rap cypher you might catch during a high school lunch break. Fueled by a jazzy beat that never quite fully drops, Lil Yachty and J. Cole deliver stellar verses. They touch on topics such as their trigger-happy associates, disdain for opportunists, aversion to interviews, affection for Nikki Parker, and the influence of Drake. While J. Cole’s verse stands out with its impressive punchlines and remarkable flows, Yachty also shines by floating like a sponge on his verse.
J. Cole needs to be arrested. He can’t be killing these rappers like this.
