More Album Reviews: Conway The Machine, Pardison Fontaine & Rowdy Rebel

These are all the albums other than Nicki’s that I was interested in.

Pardison – SEXT8PE

(C)

Pardison Fontaine may forever be associated with being Megan Thee Stallion’s ex-boyfriend, but before their relationship, he crafted some noteworthy tracks, including “Backin’ It Up” with Cardi B. In fact, the streaming numbers for his previous project are quite impressive. Pardison is back with a new 8-track project called SEXT8PE, where he candidly delves into his past relationships.

If guys created musical diaries, they might sound something like this. In SEXT8PE, Pardison Fontaine delves into his past relationship woes, revisiting arguments, conversations, and misunderstandings with a certain someone. There are also moments where he exudes the vibe of the most eligible bachelor. What sets the project apart is the balance between Pardison’s singing and rapping. Rest assured, he never comes across as overly sentimental; instead, he exudes a sense of freedom.

If the quality of this project were a bit higher, I would have given it a better rating.

Favorite Tracks: “Conceited,” “Show Me Love” and “Complainin.”

Conway The Machine – Mind Tricks

(C+)

Two Conway The Machine projects in as many weeks before Christmas wasn’t a coincidence. Last week, we got a chance to hear him collaborate with Conductor Williams on a project called Conductor Machine. This week, he released a four-track project called “Mind Tricks.”

There’s nothing special about this project, and that’s OK. All four tracks feature grungy-ass Griselda-like beats and gutter lyrics designed to excite hustlers about their 9-5 shifts in the trap. If you have a few minutes to spare, give it a shot. Other than that, I don’t think you’re missing anything by not listening to this EP.

Favorite Tracks: “Brick By Brick” and “Montagna.”

Rowdy Rebel – Back Outside

(C+)

Once Rowdy Rebel was released from jail, a lot of folks were messing with him. Since it has been a few months, things have gotten a little quieter for him. This past weekend, Rowdy returned to the music scene with a new album called Back Outside.

I really like the energy that we get in Back Outside. Throughout the ten-track project, Rowdy spits with great animation, confidence, and assertiveness over beats that thump harder than a baby that slipped out of your hands. I think this album is a very solid listen.

Favorite Tracks: “Morant,” “Posture,” and “Free Smallz.”
