3. I Want You

I’m not going to lie; I came to this soundtrack for JAY-Z but left falling in love with everyone else…

“I Want You” is a nine-minute track driven by D’Angelo’s sultry vocals and dramatic, jazzy production, featuring a standout violin. While the song is repetitive, the lyrics carry an empowering message. Approximately three minutes into the track, JAY-Z delivers a poetic verse, more akin to spoken word, expressing his reflections on love and its significance in his life.

I’m happy I listened to this song at least once. I feel no need to listen to it again (Respectfully)…

2. Hallelujah Heaven

These are the random-ass songs that Wayne was showing up on during his prime.

You should’ve been there when Lil Wayne was on top of the world. Amidst his prolific output of hard-hitting rap records, he also ventured into experimenting with various genres. One noteworthy genre where he showcased his talent was reggae music. Wayne has once again decided to tackle the genre. In “Hallelujah Heaven,” we witness a highly focused version of the New Orleans rapper who is determined to receive recognition, dismiss his rivals, and assert the greatness of his congregation. The other artists on the track contribute animated verses that celebrate the power and influence of God. Overall, this track evokes classic Bob Marley vibes with a twist of modern hip-hop.

1. JEEZU

Kodak Black and Doja Cat rap like several months of rent is due in “JEEZU.”

Kodak Black and Doja Cat saw their fair share of controversy last year. Both were actually questioned about their sanity. One thing I know I didn’t do (Maybe you did) is question their rap skills, and that is mainly because whenever they hopped in the booth last year, they killed s**t. In “JEEZU,” Doja and Kodak’s rapping is top-notch. Their words feel extra personal, their passion is super evident, and their focus is entirely there. There’s something about Caribbean and Nigerian influences that makes people want to jump off the porch.

OVERALL RATING

(A-) (92%)

This might be the best soundtrack I’ve ever heard (Even better than the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle 2: The Secret Of The Ooze soundtrack with Vanilla Ice).

Jeymes Samuel is a brilliant musical mind; I hate that I just learned about him twenty minutes ago (Yikes). Though I wouldn’t say he has a voice that can completely move mountains, he 100% knows how to put together high-quality, multi-layered, powerful, and dramatic compositions. He also knows how to mesh his style with other artists’ styles, creating the truest and purest definition of collaborations.

We get A+ production on this album. Every single instrumental gives me the vibes of important scenes in epic Disney movies. You don’t even have to like music to appreciate this aspect of the project.

High-profile names are featured on this album, and everyone steps up to the plate and hits a home run. Kodak, in his rawest form, delivers one of his most meaningful and powerful verses to date. Doja Cat delivers yet another verse in which she proves to the world that she is a certified spitter. Lastly, all of the singers, from Yemi Alade to Adenkunle Gold to Buju Banton to Alice Smith, deliver soul-clenching vocal performances that you will naturally want to listen to again. Perfect cast equaled near-perfect results.

This is what it sounds like when someone puts great detail into their work. Now I need to see what The Book Of Clarence movie is hitting for…
