More Album Ratings: Kali Uchis, Teezo Touchdown, Boldy James & More

Finally, we got a bunch of new, high-profile albums.

Kali Uchis – ORQUÍDEAS

(B)

Believe me, whenever Kali Uchis releases new music, I’m eager to provide a review. The sole reason I refrained from doing one for “ORQUIDEAS” is that I am ass at translating Spanish to English.

Even though I genuinely don’t comprehend 95% of the words uttered on this album, that doesn’t diminish my ability to recognize its breathtaking beauty. Throughout ORQUÍDEAS, Kali Uchis unleashes her vocals with complete freedom, creating a sound that feels like it’s gracefully drifting away with the clouds. It’s a therapeutic experience, especially when coupled with the atmospheric, hypnotic, vibey, authentically Latin, and spirited instrumentals over which she showcases her artistry.

Another aspect of this album that I thoroughly enjoy is the guest appearances. It’s a genuine treat to hear Kali Uchis share the stage with Latin music legends like KAROL G, Pesa Pluma, and more. As a whole, this album is incredibly refreshing.

Favorite Songs: “Igual Que Un Angel with Peso Pluma,” “Te Mata,” “Perdiste,” “Muñekita” & “Labios Mordidos.”

Teezo Touchdown – HOW DO YOU SLEEP AT NIGHT? With You

(N/A)

Teezo Touchdown’s HOW DO YOU SLEEP AT NIGHT? album was a disappointing release. In it, you definitely get a chance to hear his talent, but I felt like he tried too hard to sound “different.” In this deluxe version of the project, which features three new tracks, Teezo minimizes the experimenting and mainly relies on his infectious melodies and traditional hip-hop/R&B sounds. As a matter of fact, “Third Coast” is one of the hardest West Coast-inspired records I’ve heard in a while. If we got this version of the artist for a full-length project, I probably would’ve been a lot happier.

Boldy James & Nicholas Craven – Penalty of Leadership

(B)

I did this post so I wouldn’t get fined…

There’s a world of music in which the people who listen to it don’t smile and do bad things. Who’s one of the biggest leaders of that world? Boldy James. In nearly every song he’s featured on, he sounds gritty as hell and like he’s fully assimlated to being stuck in the hood. In Penalty of Leadership, his 100th album release in the past two years, he and Nicholas Craven do not stray too far away from sounding like that.

The production that we get on this album is fantastic. I love how dark, soulful, and vintage the beats sound. They also have a bunch of samples that deserve chef kisses. As for Boldy, I LOVE how he effortlessly rides the beats, sounding like he’s getting the greatest shoulder massage while delivering street certified lyrics. All in all, if you are fan of rap music that can lower your blood pressure, spin this album.

Favorite Tracks: “Jack Frost,” “Murderous,” and “Straight As.”
