There are only a few artists I believed could reach the heights Michael Jackson achieved, and Justin Timberlake is one of them. When he embarked on his solo career, he showcased incredible dance moves, released impressive pop/R&B hits, and collaborated with some of the finest musicians and producers globally. However, after his second studio album, his momentum seemed to wane. In 2024, given his recent activities, I have a strong sense that Justin is poised for a significant comeback. Today, he marked his return to the music scene with a new single titled “Selfish.”
In “Selfish,” Justin Timberlake openly acknowledges his desire to have his girl all to himself, expressing the belief that she’s an angel deserving of an exclusive commitment. Despite being in his 40s and married, it’s refreshing to hear him exude the excitement of a high schooler who just got his crush’s number.
This is the epitome of a heartwarming pop track. It encompasses both low-pitched and high-pitched singing, incorporates about three highly infectious melodies, and is supported by smooth production that easily captivates the listener. I believe the track, as a whole, is exceptional.
