In a world full of talented, bombastic, and highly competitive rappers, I’ve developed an appreciation for JT. While I don’t believe she possesses the same commercial appeal as someone like Megan Thee Stallion, listening to her music reveals an artist with a genuine love for hip-hop. On Friday, the City Girls member returned with “Sideways.”
In “Sideways,” JT talks her s**t. In her verses, she takes shots at fake individuals, boasts about her luxurious possessions, and makes it clear that she’s always prepared for any confrontations. Additionally, she proudly declares her status as one of the hottest figures in the rap game.
“Sideways” resembles JT’s previous single, “No Bars,” which was released a few months ago. Both tracks share common elements, such as Detroit-influenced beats, the absence of a distinct and concise hook, and assertive and aggressive deliveries. It seems evident that this style of hip-hop is where the Miami native excels the most.
I refuse to call JT “JT from City Girls.” Publications, please stop doing that.
