Russ Says “I Got You”

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Russ has been in his feelings more than Drake lately. Since the new year began, he’s consistently released singing records, a departure from his recent focus on rap in 2022. Now the question arises: Do you prefer him as a singer or a rapper? While you ponder that, check out his latest R&B single: “I Got You.”

In “I Got You,” Russ delves into themes surrounding insecurity and self-doubt within a romantic relationship. These include worries about being judged by oneself and one’s partner and questioning one’s adequacy and suitability for the relationship. The song is powered by soothing production that perfectly complements Russ’ emotional vocals. Though I don’t love how generic his melodies sound, his feelings feel real at the end of the day.

I think Russ has to try a little harder than this if he wants to solidify his spot as one of the best musicians in the game.
