A Boogie Wit da Hoodie Returns With “Steppas”

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Can I be real with you? OK, here’s my take: A part of why I believe A Boogie Wit da Hoodie isn’t as prominent as he once was might be because his rap moniker feels a bit outdated now (It’s got that 2016 vibe). However, I don’t think it’s due to any decline in his skills, as he still manages to produce hits from time to time. Just last Friday, A Boogie made a comeback to the music scene with his latest single, “Steppas.” It’s one of his most impactful releases in a while.

Is this an A Boogie Wit da Hoodie song or a Roddy Ricch song? In “Steppas,” A Boogie experiments with a robotic, subtly melodic sound, similar to Roddy Ricch’s, while conveying a clear message: that he remains one of the toughest individuals in New York City. While this track wasn’t exactly to my taste, as I prefer A Boogie’s softer, more R&B-focused style, its explosive sound, particularly with its militant-like beat, is likely to resonate with many listeners.
