As someone who was born in Louisiana and is a certified fat-ass, the moment I saw Gumbo’s rap name, I was a fan. Little did I know they actually do the eating on the mic. Recently, the duo, comprised of Caro Adé and Danger, dropped a 13-track project called Stir The Pot. As expected, it features a bunch of hard-hitting rap bangers. One of the hardest is “All True” with the legendary Chuck D.

“All True” sounds like some vintage TDE s**t. I say this because it features this dark hip-hop beat that I can see old-school Kendrick, ScHoolBoy Q, or Ab-Soul rapping over. Thankfully, we get nothing but hard-ass verses from Caro Adé and Danger that are completely true to who they are. Not only do they bless us with assertive deliveries that will send chills down your spine, but they also flow dynamically and hit us with powerful lyrics that highlight the importance of loyalty, their hate for oppressors, and their hunger for the truth. They also pay homage to Paul Mooney in the most amazing way possible. Closing out the song is Chuck D with a brief excerpt that is beyond interesting.

That Paul Mooney verse might be the best of the year.
