Honestly, it’s hard to keep track of all these diss tracks flooding in. There have been so many beefs lately that even a feud between Meek Mill and Wale got overshadowed. The latest feud to surface is between Denzel Curry and Kendrick Lamar. What sparked it? I have no idea. All I know is that Denzel’s shots are pretty clear in “DBZ.”
I get it, “DBZ” features two other artists, but let’s be honest, you’re here to find out what Denzel Curry had to say, so let’s address that right away. Below are the shots he took at Kendrick Lamar:
When I grab the mic, I crush your stamina, you will be damaged
‘Cause using big words don’t make you lyrical
And going backwards in a swimmin’ pool don’t make you spiritual
So if I bought a brand new whip, they call it (wait a minute)
Damn, whatever the next line is, I’m ballin’
I’m the current boss, currency is what I come across
It’s a bit of a stretch, but the “swimming pool” line could be a nod to Kendrick Lamar’s “Swimming Pools (Drank)” track, and the comment about “big words” could also allude to Kendrick’s reputation for being an intellectual rapper. Despite these subtle jabs, I found Denzel’s verse to be so-so. However, Your Old Droog and Method Man delivered outstanding verses. Their punchlines are top-notch, their flows are smooth as butter, and their lyrics are genuinely amusing. Overall, if you’re a hip-hop fan, you’re bound to appreciate this track.
Kendrick ain’t responding to this s**t.
