Drake Officially Releases “Push Ups”

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Drake’s ongoing feuds with numerous artists in the industry is undeniably one of the most bizarre things I’ve ever seen. While it’s not uncommon for artists to have disagreements with others, the simultaneous nature of Drake’s conflicts with so many individuals is unusual. What’s intriguing is how Drake has managed to hold his own amidst what seems like a 20-versus-1 scenario.

Although I’m not particularly fond of his social media disses, it’s hard to deny that Drake has released the most impressive diss track among those we’ve heard so far. That diss record, “Push Ups,” has officially hit streaming services today.

After listening to this diss track over 20 times, I’ve picked up on all its nuances. In summary, Drake takes aim at Future, Kendrick Lamar, Metro Boomin, Rick Ross, and The Weeknd. While some shots are relatively light (like those aimed at The Weeknd or Future), others are swift (such as his dig at Metro Boomin). Drake hits Rick Ross with what feels like a one-hitter-quitter.

However, it’s Kendrick Lamar who bears the brunt of Drake’s attacks. Throughout the song, Drake ridicules Kendrick’s height, past record deal with Top Dawg, and even his partner. Aside from the confrontational nature of the lyrics, I find myself drawn to the dark, action-packed beat and Drake’s unwavering seriousness throughout.

Now that the diss record is officially out, Kendrick Lamar has 26 hours to respond.
