I’m also working on myself. I stopped eating that damn KFC chicken pizza s**t.
With Kendrick Lamar and Drake tearing into each other recently, it got me thinking: How would Russ fare if he were ever forced into a beef? I personally believe the Atlanta native is a phenomenal rapper, knows how to talk smack effectively, and would probably excel at playing internet games like Drake. Since this hypothetical showdown might never happen, I’ll enjoy the new singles Russ has been gifting us lately. One of them is “Working On Me” featuring 6LACK.
“Workin On Me” by Russ and 6LACK delves into the importance of sharing personal struggles with others, highlighting how it can be profoundly beneficial. Russ reflects on the childhood trauma he experienced and its impact on his behavior within relationships. Meanwhile, 6LACK discusses the regretful decisions he made during difficult times. Together, they vividly portray the value of sharing one’s experiences.
One aspect that often leaves me wanting more in Russ’ songs is their tendency to feel somewhat hollow. “Workin On Me” seems even more devoid of substance compared to his previous work. Despite featuring captivating vocal performances from both Russ and 6LACK, along with an appealing rap verse from Russ, the overall composition feels lacking. Perhaps this emptiness is intentional, but it leaves me feeling like there’s something missing.
Check out “Working On Me” below.
