Cash Cobain & J. Cole Unite For “Grippy”

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

J. Cole has reemerged from the tunnel, sounding like a completely new guy.

Cash Cobain might be the hottest name in hip-hop right now. In the past few weeks, I’ve heard him on tracks with A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, Don Toliver, NAV, Ice Spice, and more. While those collaborations aren’t entirely unusual, his link-up with J. Cole definitely caught me by surprise. Then again, since Cole’s public apology, he might be a completely different person. Anywho, in “Grippy,” Cobain and Cole somehow find common ground.

J. Cole definitely steps into Cash Cobain’s world on “Grippy.” Produced by Cobain, the track features a glitchy, unorthodox beat that might make you dance weirder than a white guy on a molly. Cole does his best to manipulate the beat, delivering his bars with a fast-paced, zany flow that pairs perfectly with his slight melody and lyrical content that makes him come across as someone who just experienced some bomb vajayjay for the first time. Ultimately, though, it’s Cash Cobain who steals the show with his high-pitched vocals and frantic flow, reminiscent of 24hrs. Overall, this collaboration is both fun and weird.

Damn, Kendrick really has J. Cole tapping into a new subgenre.
