Common & Pete Rock Drop “Dreamin'”

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Common and Pete Rock do it again.

Have you heard the remix of “4,3,2,1” that’s been floating around? It features a masterful verse by Common. One of the things I found incredibly dope about it is that he uses this kill-a-rapper approach, which I love for him. It seems like Common is in this mode these days.

A few weeks ago, the Chicago native dropped an explosive single with Pete Rock called “Wise Up.” Today, he returned to the music scene with another equally explosive single: “Dreamin’.”

“Dreamin'” is driven by an elegant boom-bap beat featuring a soul sample that should sound familiar to you. Over it, Common relies on a steady flow and wise words to pay homage to all the legends of hip-hop and black culture, explaining how they have impacted people like him for generations. Common also ensures we don’t forget the influence he and Yaasin Bey have had on the culture as well (and I’m cool with that kind of self-promotion).

Common is definitely in my top 10 rappers list.
