Paul Russell Calls On Free Nationals For “Eat Pray Love”

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Everything else is a luxury.

Paul Russell is a refreshing hip-hop artist. I don’t need to say anything else, but I will because I feel obligated to. Though this Dallas, TX native can practically do it all— including DJing and playing the trumpet and ukulele—one of his main strengths was once battle rapping, which he used to do during lunch at school.

Though I think Paul’s technical skills are outstanding, it’s his good vibes that make him truly special. When you listen to songs like the uber-popular “Lil Boo Thang” and “Ms. Poli Sci,” you can’t help but feel great. Music is supposed to make you feel great, right? Paul’s latest single, “Eat Pray Love,” is equally uplifting and enjoyable.

In “Eat Pray Love,” Paul Russell promises a girl he’s feeling that if she can endure a simple life with him now, eventually, she will be able to enjoy luxuries like burrito bowls with double meat, visiting extravagant churches, and cuddling in Versace bedsheets. In other words, he wants her to trade temporary sacrifices for future rewards.

As much as I enjoy this song’s Coming To America-like theme, I love its overall sound even more. “Eat Pray Love” features festive, feel-good instrumentation by Free Nationals, complemented by a laid-back yet infectious hook and dynamic raps by Paul. It’s the perfect track to play in the summer.
